ABOUT DIABETES 1
Atle about his Diabetes
I got Diabetes when I was 13.
The symptoms were big - but not very clear, I lost about 14 kg of muscles, fat and mostly water. I was out of energy.
I went to the doctor with my mom, and he made some tests and I got the diagnose.
I was in the hospital for 10 days for learning and getting informations about diabetes and how to live with it. It didn't take long before everything was a routine.
The injection of insulin and measuring the blood sugar level are a part of my daily routine and myself. I can't live without it and it has become my best friend. I have to take more care about what I eat and be sure to eat right. I don't feel sick at all, for me diabetes is not "sickness" it’s a way of living.
When I was young I put up some goals, and I don't want give them up cause of the diabetes. I want to show myself that I can be able to live as close to normal and do what I love most: ski jumping.
I think Diabetes make me in some ways stronger, cause I have to take more care of my body and what I eat. When people ask me how it’s like, living with diabetes: I answer: I do what I want most, and controlling diabetes is a part of my life and I don't know how life is without.
